Kantha is a type of embroidery popular in Bengali culture. These quilts are made from old saris stacked and hand-stitched together to form thin but substantial blankets.
These pieces are each unique- many have small patches of other saris where repairs were needed, which only lend to their uniqueness. The front and back are different and often the color combinations seem random- but that is part of their charm. These quilts were found at my favorite textile shop, owned by the same family for many generations, in Jaipur.
